Volunteers needed for our summer Reading Tents

We are looking for volunteers in Toronto to run our popular Reading Tents at various outdoor locations in the city including summer day camp programs, community events, and festivals. These tents run primarily on weekdays for 2 to 3 hours between 9:30 am and 4:30 pm from mid-June to mid-August.

The purpose of the reading tent program is to provide a place where children, parents and caregivers can share the joy of reading, books and storytelling. Helping children develop a love of reading is an important step in helping them become successful readers. Reading with children during the summer is especially important as it helps to reduce the 'learning loss' that occurs when children do not have the routines of school.

We are looking for volunteers who:
  • Possess a love of reading. Read with enjoyment and enthusiasm to children.
  • Are comfortable with informal learning environments and settings.
  • Are able to travel to different parts of the city.
Training:
Volunteers must attend training on either Tuesday, June 21st from 6:00 to 8:30 pm or Thursday, June 23rd from 1:00 to 3:30 pm. Additional trainings will be organized for late June and early July as needed.

Training sessions will be held at Frontier College, 35 Jackes Avenue, near the intersection of St. Clair Avenue and Yonge Street.
